REGISTERING A BUSINESS IN SINGAPORE

1.Secure Business Name The first step is to register your preferred business name with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) Singapore. After the name is approved, the next step is to incorporate the company with the submission of required documents to ACRA.

2.Open Corporate Bank Account Upon incorporation, companies can setup a corporate bank account.

3.Immigration Passes Foreign entrepreneurs have to apply for work passes in order to live and work in Singapore. Business owners and major shareholders are eligible for the Entrepreneur Pass while professional staff have to apply for the Employment Pass.

4.Appoint an auditor A company will be required to have its accounts audited if it is a:
•Singapore company with corporate shareholding; or
•Singapore company with annual revenue exceeding S$5 million.

5.Goods and Services Tax (GST) Registration Also known as Value Added Tax (VAT) or Sales Tax in many other countries. Companies making more than S$1 million revenue per year have to pay the GST. New companies expecting to generate more than this amount of revenue in the next 12 months have to register with IRAS.

6.Registration with Central Provident Fund (CPF) Companies hiring Singapore citizens and permanent residents have to register with the Central Provident Fund to secure an employer number, which will be used as reference for the remittance of social security contributions on a monthly basis.

7.Business licenses Depending on your company's business activities, you may need to obtain one or more business licenses after you have incorporated your company but before commencing your business operations.
